  • Being Open

May 27, 2021 - Today's class is about a convoluted experience of meeting some bicyclists in Burlington. Pretty funny story that's better to listen to then to read about...so, watch the video (the story is about the beginning...of course), and maybe even stick around after the story for some yoga!

  • Using Breath for Connection

April 16, 2021 - The breath is probably the simplest method we have to remind ourselves that we are part of something bigger. The idea that if we deeply connect to the breath, we also connect to something much bigger than ourselves. I really love that.

I really like this section from one of th...

  • Practicing Open-Mindedness

April 28, 2021 - I was thinking about approaching conversation and connection to others from the point of view of learning something from the interaction, rather than getting your point across. I grew in a family, maybe like most, where being right was the important thing, not necessarily being ...

  • Listening to Your Body, Heart and Mind

April 30, 2021 - I have been having some pain in the neck and left shoulder on and off for maybe 20 years or so. It’s been one of those things that comes and goes…most of that time on the “goes” end of the scale. But, lately it’s been pretty consistent so I decided some intervention would be a go...

  • Breath

May 20, 2021 - Today we focus on deep breathing and making space for the breath.

  • Gratitude

June 11, 2021 - Gratitude is always just a great thing to practice. It's amazing how once you start down the road of thinking of things you are grateful for, you never get to the end. :-)

  • Duty Uncontaminated by Desire

    April 22, 2021

I fluctuate a bit between doing things for the experience of doing them, and doing things because I’m looking for some sort of result or positive feedback from my actions. It’s hard to do things for the sheer experience of doing them, without having desire for a particular outcom...

  • Connecting to the Senses

May 26, 2021 - It's amazing how much information we are receiving from our senses, and a lot of times we aren't aware of it...you know, we have other stuff going on.

But, really connecting to the senses helps to find a feeling of place and really makes you feel present, which is awesome. We do ...

  • Imagining the Future

May 4, 2021 - One thing that has been hard during this pandemic is that it’s been tough to plan for the future…well, impossible to plan for the future. But as we get more vaccinations it is allowing us to make plans. Something that has been a real foundation of my life is thinking about future f...

  • Loving Kindness

April 21, 2021 - Today is a good day to practice the Loving Kindness meditation.

  • Spring - A Feast for Your Senses

March 30, 2021 - The other day I went outside to the wonderful smell of SPRING. I had to tell Jane to come outside and smell it, too. I love the smell of Spring. I don’t know if it’s because it represents the coming of brighter, longer, warmer days…or, it just is a great smell. Either way, ri...

  • Be Kind Whenever Possible, It Is Always Possible

May 5, 2021 - I like the above quote from the Dali Lama. Good to practice kindness with others, and the yoga practice is an opportunity to practice kindness with ourselves. So, be nice to yourself…do some yoga!

  • Keep Being Yourself

    March 25, 2021

In 1990 Hungarian biochemist Katalin Kariko was looking for funding for an idea she had for a new vaccine. She didn’t get any funding. She kept trying…being rejected 80 times in search of funding. Finally, she found funding after searching for five years, in 1995. This year, she ...

  • Make Today A Special Day

March 26, 2021 - Yesterday was my birthday, and I didn’t have any plans to tell anybody besides people who already knew. I just didn’t really feel like sharing it. But, I went to Barrio to get myself a chocolate croissant as a special treat, and some iced coffee. I had a wonderful time sitting ...

  • Remembering Your True Nature

June 28, 2021 - During the last couple weeks I was out west seeing family and friends. It was totally great. Part of the time we were out there I visited my mom, who as I have mentioned before, has dementia, but is in general a happy person, which is a great. A few weeks before we arrived my mo...

  • Perception

May 18, 2021 - I’ve been loving going to the new City Hall Park in Burlington. It’s so great, and Dewey loves it, too, because he always meets new dogs, and people, when we go there. Yesterday a little dog came up to us to say hi - funny little dog. Then the woman who owned to dog came over an...

  • There is Your Meditation Hall

4.15.21 - I love riding my new electric bicycle! I have a nearly 30 mile round trip round to work and back to UVM, and I average 22 miles per hour…sometimes getting up to 40 mph on downhills. So fun!

Riding my bike really reminds myself of myself. It used to only have a bike until I was 30, b...

  • Go With the Flow

June 29, 2021 - While we were out West, we were driving from Laramie, Wyoming (my home town), down to Colorado Springs, where my mom and one of my brothers lives. It’s around a 3 hour drive, and we had extra time, so I texted one of my brothers who had lived in the mountains in Colorado, and ask...

  • A Good Day for Gratitude

July 2, 2021 - After all we've been though with COVID, and with people doing their part and getting vaccinated, it's a good day for gratitude. :-)

  • Enjoy Your Own Company

June 2, 2021 - Yesterday I meet up with three guys who were finishing up a bicycle tour around Vermont going to various breweries. I originally ran into them last week when they started their trip (a previous class). It was really great seeing these guys again. I thought a lot about why it was s...

  • Define How You are Feeling

June 1, 2021 - I read an article in the New York Times today that was talking about how beneficial it is to honestly define how you you feeling. It said that no matter what you are feeling, defining your feelings truthfully makes you feel better. That’s pretty cool, and very much goes along wit...

  • Being a Witness

June 8, 2021 - Yesterday I was in City Hall Park, and one of the men that I see in the park a lot who seems to be experiencing homelessness right now, was lying in the sun. It wasn’t a good idea, because it was in 90s yesterday. A friend of his came over to tell him is he should move, but he ju...

  • There is Always Blue Sky Behind the Clouds

May 7, 2021 - Jane and I started out doing yoga by practicing Ashtanga. Then we were talking about wanting to learn more about the philosophy of yoga during the yoga practice, and we found Copper Crane Yoga in Vergennes, Vermont, where Carolyn Conner was the owner and teacher. Carolyn's teachin...
