Sept. 6, 2021 - Today is Labor Day, and it’s Monday. I got up this morning and went down to the kitchen. It was so quiet. Normally there are cars racing to work, and a general energy of MONDAY. But, instead, it was super quiet and relaxed outside, and I had a similar feeling on the inside of myself.
It made me think about hows so much of yoga is spent on the internal world. There is a feeling or attitude that if we just “control” the inner world all will be well. And, on some level that is true for sure, but it can be hard to control the inner world when the outer world is chaos and loud. It takes a lot more work to find yourself if your external world is toxic. At the same time, if the external world is calm and relaxed, like it is for me today, then the inner world can be easier to calm down.
Sometimes I realize I just sort of block out the outer world instead realizing maybe I should try to change it, just like I work I changing my inner world. In today’s practice we’ll wake up to what is going on inside, and simultaneously be aware of all the sound outside of us. It’s cool…try it out. :-)
