July 22, 2021 - Yesterday I was feeling super positive and good. I just really felt upbeat and alive and “Yay”! I went to my favorite coffee shop in town and started journaling about the reasons that might be impacting my good feelings. I wrote that I have been getting enough sleep, I’ve been eating regular meals, I’ve been drinking lots of water, I haven’t had alcohol for about a week, and I hadn’t had coffee in a while. It was really all those things that we are told to do and we will feel good…it’s true! I did think it was funny that one of things that I felt contributed to me feeling good, not drinking coffee, was something I was doing in that moment but whatever.
Then, I ended up staying at the coffeeshop a bit too long and ended up missing having a regular lunch. I got home and felt a bit lost, surfed the internet, made poor food choices, and then headed out to meet I friend I had plans to meet. We met at Foam Brewery, and even though he didn’t order an alcoholic drink I figured, “Why not…I’ve been doing great, I’ll have a drink.” We stayed there until past 9 and didn’t have any dinner. I ended up coming home, having popcorn for dinner, staying up past midnight watching Netflix, and getting up late this morning late feeling a bit groggy and out of sorts.
So, well, I didn’t quite stick to my “feel good” strategy…basically failing in aspects. And that brings us to yoga, of course. In the yoga practice there is the book “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali”, and the first sutra says, “Now we begin the practice of yoga.” The first word being NOW. It’s a reminder that we can begin right now, even if yesterday we may have failed a little bit at life, we can start fresh today and try again, no problem. How about we do that. :-)
