The Fruits

July 30, 2021 - I got in some more Olympic watching. Yippe! Yesterday I watched the women's gymnastics all-round, which is where individuals compete on all the different events...floor, vault, uneven bars, and balance beam. It's exciting because no one is the best at all of the events, but most people are the best at one or two. So, it was a nail biter down to the last routine on the floor.
In the end, a US gymnast won the gold, but the gymnast I really loved was the Brazilian, Rebeca Andrade. She ended up winning the silver. Her last routine on the floor she made a couple mistakes that probably cost her the gold medal. What I loved about her is she had no attitude at all like lost anything. She was thrilled! She did her best. If you were trying to choose who "won" the competition by their reactions, you would think she did.
I think this is a really good example of one of the lessons from the Bhagavad Gita - "The truly wise act without scheming for the fruits of their actions, and are therefore without inner turmoil."
She was definitely without inner turmoil, and instead of going for the fruits (the gold), it really felt like her goal was to be her best self, and let the chips fall where they may. Check out her performance, and her energy...it was great!

People shared about being on beaches or climbing a mountain, but they also shared about watching kids play, walking their dog, si...

Being A Compassionate Observer
September 9, 2021 - There is a cool practice in yoga, and probably elsewhere, of being the observer of yourself. Today, we'll be the observer of ourselves, holding ourself in an energy of compassion.
