Beginner’s Mind

April 2, 2021 - Since Sunday is Easter, I am reminded of my childhood and how we celebrated. I have 5 brothers, and we would get up in the morning and stand in line (in order of birth) at the bottom of the stairs that went up to our living room. We could hear my Dad upstairs hiding the “eggs”, which were jelly beans. He’d say, “Ok, come up!”, and we would all bound upstairs and he’d hand us Wyoming Cowboys plastic cups that we would then proceed to fill up with jelly beans hidden all over the living room. It was magical and wonderful and special and memorable.
I was thinking of the idea of magic and wonder, and how it seems like it can lost as you get older. And, it seems to me that the magic is still there, we just have lost our ability to see it. The first book I ever read that was about spiritual practices was “Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind.” I don’t remember the specifics, but it general, it’s the idea that we can cultivate a “Beginner’s Mind” as we travel through life. Practicing looking at everything with a sense of newness and wonder and delight at the magic of it. So, let’s practice that!S
I hope you have magical day, and wonderful Easter weekend. :-)

There is Your Meditation Hall

Riding my bike really reminds myself of myself. It used to only have a bike until I was 30, b...
