7.16.21 - In the yoga practice, dharana is translated as “concentration”, but another translation is “to hold, like in a hug”. It’s nice to think of being in a yoga class and being held, like in a hug. That’s what I try to do as a teacher…hold people in dharana through various means, like they are being held in a hug. In a yoga class, there are lots of different hugs, some created by the student, some by the teacher, some by surroundings.
Today in class we work on the concept on creating your own held space. Focusing on a distance a little bit away from you, maybe a couple feet, and all around you. Like you are practicing inside a safe, protected bubble. Creating your own personal hug. It feels good…try it out. :-)

Held In Sound
July 21, 2021 - Yesterday I went for a walk with Dewey in the woods. It was so great. We went on a trail I hadn’t been on before, and there was a constant sound of water as we walked. I loved the sound, and it really took me away…it was like being held in an embrace of sound - super cool.

Regular Practice

Rain
July 13, 2021 - This morning I woke to the wonderful sound of rain. I love the sound of rain, along the the smell, the rhythm, how everything is cleaner after a rain storm. Rain is awesome. :-)
