Positive Communication with Yourself and Others

Jan 18, 2021 - Today is Martin Luther King Day. I found this great quote about communication from him - "People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other."
I was thinking of this quote it in terms of the communication that has happened during the last four years of the outgoing President. I've had a lot of communication with family and friends about differences instead of similarities. The more I have conversations like that the more the differences grow. But, when you start looking at similarities and communicating those, the more those grow...and you realize we have a lot in common.
As an example, my brother called me last night about the fact the he appreciated a card we sent him about his dog who recently died. In our conversation I was reminded how much we have in common, how much I love him, even if we voted for different people for President. In fact, we have so very much in common, and the politics was never really talked about...but social media can expose these parts of ourselves to others that you wouldn't bring up normally...and then division grows. It was nice to communicate about what we share! Hopefully, as we all move forward we'll be able to all have more connections like this, and less emphasis on what divides us. I really hope so.
And, when you think of this in terms of you and your "inner communication", we can do the same with ourselves. Sometimes I focus on the things I don't like about me, and the more I focus on the those things, the bigger they get. Instead, it feels so great to focus on what I do like, and enjoy the growth of those things. Practicing this way gets to the purpose of yoga, which is to remember we ARE good, and we have love and light inside of us. We just need to keep communicating that to ourselves, just like we need to do the same with others.
I hope you enjoy today's class. :-)

Getting Back to Balance
Jan 19, 2021 - This morning my wife and I woke up at 4:30am. Instead of talking about all the things we're worried about in the world, which has been the normal conversation when we wake up during the night over the last four years, we were being silly and laughing. We were laughing!! As we wer...

The Power of Words
Jan 20, 2021 - Yesterday I was walking my dog, Dewey, around Burlington. I came across a woman how looked like she was having a hard time with the parking meter, so I said, "You doing ok?" She was so grateful. She just wanted to be sure she had done it right and there was time on the meter. I ...
