Love Is Already Inside

2.12.21 - Well, it’s almost Valentine’s Day so it seems appropriate to think about love a bit. One thing I “love” about yoga philosophy is it generally based on the idea that all the goodness and light, and love, available is already inside of you. So, if you are searching for love, look inside.
There is a book called “Exquisite Love”, by William Mahony. It is a commentary of the Indian text “Nārada Bhakti Sūtra”. It is all about devotional love and how to find it. I like to think that it’s a playbook for finding love and all it’s forms.
Sutra #7 states - “It (love) does not arise from desire because it is of the nature of calming control.”
What that makes me think about is how when people really want love, or want to be loved, they can’t find it. They are coming from a place of desire and working to hard at it. But, with “calming control,” which I think of as turning inward and being more yourself, love comes.
Particularly at Valentine’s Day, it’s nice to be reminded that the love we have been searching for has been inside of us the whole time…lucky us!
Enjoy, with love. xo

The Essence of All Teachings is Right...
Feb. 19, 2021 - Part of a sutra I really like from the Radiance Sutras is, “the essence of all teachings is right here, open your eyes.” Isn’t that great! The part I really like is “essence.” The concept of essence is present often in yoga texts. The essence of something means that there are ...
