Being Open to Negativity

August 4, 2021 - I recently started listening to a book called “The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking.” I’m all about positive thinking, so I figured I should to it - I love it!
The premise is that positive thinking can be like the challenge of not thinking about elephants. If you ask someone to not think about elephants, that’s all the think about. If you ask someone to only think positive thoughts, they are overwhelmed with all the crap and negative things in their lives (according to the book, there have been studies that show this). So, instead of thinking positively, think negatively, meaning, at this point in the book, face the things that you are afraid of. That makes sense, right.
The invitation today is to face something in your day you are afraid of and try to make some progress. A good question is, “What is a problem I can face in my life today?” Good luck!
