Regular Practice

July 14 2021 - I was thinking today about how it’s been great to be doing these regular morning practices, and also how different I feel day to day. Sometimes I high energy, some times not. Sometimes super happy, sometimes not. But, the practice keeps happening anyway. Yay!
This reminds me of a sutra from “The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.” It’s a text about the yoga practice, with the focus on “The restraint of the modifications of the mind-stuff.” In saying how to achieve this goal, it says “Practice becomes firmly grounded when well attended to for a long time, without break and in all earnestness.” So, it’s saying to have a focused, ongoing practice. That’s what we’ve been doing with this class…we just keep doing it. And, I think it matters to consider what “well attended” means. To me it means that you keep coming back to it. Not everyone can practice every day, but maybe once a month. COOL. Stick to that. Also, be ok that your body might not feel the best today, or that you might be a little sad, or you might be pre-occupied. Do something regular that works for you…don’t let you get in your own way. :-)
