You Have Influence

April 29, 2021 - Yesterday I had some of the students in my meditation class each lead a 10-minute meditation. I asked them a couple days ago to come up with something, and the first 4 people went yesterday. I honestly was thinking they would do something from a book, or something exactly like I had done in class. Nope! They did amazing things that were unique to them. It was super awesome, and I was so inspired. The thing what was consistent, though, was the general message I have been sharing in the class…that it’s ok to vulnerable, we should be kind, and be who you are.
I had never had a class do this before. I’ve done this kind of thing on the Yoga Teacher Training, but never in one of these classes. I just figured that wouldn’t be up to it, or wouldn’t want to do it. I was so wrong. :-)
The thing it really made me recognize is that they have been truly listening this whole time. When I was thinking they weren’t necessarily hearing what I was saying about meditation or positivity or goodness or vulnerability, they actually were.
It definitely made me recognize that we are being heard, for better or for worse, and we should remember that. If we are saying nice things, those things are being heard and internalized by those we interact with…and those people will pass that on. If we are saying mean or negative things, that is being heard and felt as well. It was absolutely a reminder to keep being positive, keep sharing good thoughts, keep being nice to people. We never know how it will manifest, but it was a definite reminder that the hope for a brighter future is definitely greater if we play a role of spreading brightness.
