We Matter

Jan. 29, 2021 - Over this winter I have been taking Dewey to Burlington. We walk around downtown and then along the waterfront. I could walk right out my front door and within a couple minutes I'd be in the woods. But Dewey and I like the energy of seeing other people and interacting.
Dewey is a genius in connecting to people. He has a 6th sense when it comes to knowing dog people. Yesterday we were walking along Church Street and we were coming up to the Luenig’s kiosk. They display irresistible baked goods, and I decided I would get one. Dewey, literally, was one step ahead of me. He pulled me over to the kiosk and immediately gave a heavy lean on the leg of the woman in line. I wasn’t sure how she’d react, but immediately she started petting him and telling him how soft and beautiful we was. The barista joined in to praise Dewey. While this was happening Dewey looked at me with an expression between, “I’m offering myself for a better world,” and, “I’m such a smart dog.” After the woman left the barista gave Dewey some treats. All parties clearly appreciated the connection. Dewey is a good boy. :-)
I was thinking about how maybe we are all a bit like Dewey, but not so clear about. When I am walking around town enjoying saying “hi” to people, maybe I matter to them as much as they matter to me. Particularly during these COVID times, it nice to think that maybe we are all “scratching each other’s back” a little bit, and making a positive difference just by being around each other and sharing simple interactions.
Enjoy receiving the energy of today’s practice, while you offer your energy out to the world…it matters. :-)
