There is Your Meditation Hall

4.15.21 - I love riding my new electric bicycle! I have a nearly 30 mile round trip round to work and back to UVM, and I average 22 miles per hour…sometimes getting up to 40 mph on downhills. So fun!
Riding my bike really reminds myself of myself. It used to only have a bike until I was 30, because where I lived I didn’t need a car. Since living in Vermont it’s difficult to get around without a car, at least for me. BUT, now with my ebike I feel like I’ve rediscovered myself. Remembering ME. It makes me so happy.
This experience of finding joy in your thing, whatever that thing is, reminds me of part of a sutra from the Radiance Sutras:
Wherever, wherever you feel carried away,
Rejoicing in every breath,
There, there is your mediation hall.
For me, getting on my bike is a wonderful meditation hall. I can also find it swimming (in warm or cold water), hiking, having dinner, watching the sunset, or practicing yoga.
It doesn’t really matter what is, or even if other people are into it. If you dig it, great. Enjoy!
I hope you have fun with today’s class. :-)
