Jan. 24, 2022 - We got a loud knock on our front door last night at 10pm. We were in bed, and I yelled downstairs, "Just a minute!" as I got out of bed. Our neighbor, Joe, yelled back, "Tawny's basement is flooding!" Well, that's not what you want to hear. We live in a condo, and her basement flooding is bad enough, but it could effect everyone else as well. We threw on our clothes and ran next door to her house. It was definitely flooding. Tawny, our neighbor Joe, and another neighor Sara were all there in water a few inches deep...not good!
We quickly got some brooms and started sweeping the water out the front door. Then the fire department came, and then the water department came. Finally, by 1am, we had it under control and the water turned off. The flooding part wasn't that great, obviously, but all of us doing the sweeping to save Tawny's condo was really great. It really gave a wonderful feeling of community.
Something that is nice to think about is all the communities you are part of, from your family to neighbors to work colleagues...it's somewhat amazing, and wonderful, how many communities we all belong to. I feels good to think about it, so that's what we are doing in class today. I hope you enjoy it, and be reminded that you aren't alone. :-)

It's Only Water
Jan. 18, 2022 - About a year ago I took my first cold water swim in Lake Champlain. It was amazing! I tried to keep that going, but it takes time to get to the lake, and it's a bit of a hassle. This year I have started to find the cold water experience by taking cold showers. I originally thou...
