Vaccine Compassion

April 1, 2021 - Yesterday I got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine! Boom..one and done! I was simultaneously euphoric with a feeling like I had super powers, and also feeling empathy for those who haven’t yet been vaccinated, particularly those in places were they experience a lot of exposure. I definitely had a feeling of wanting everyone to have what I have as soon as possible..it’s an amazing feeling to realize, maybe for the first time since last March, that this is actually going to end.
With that, I thought today it would be nice to practice the Buddhist “Loving Kindness” meditation. Sending love out to yourself, and also everyone else. The technique is starting with yourself (filling your cup with love first, and then spreading that around) and then thinking of others while you repeat this phrase quietly, or silently:
May I(you/we) be happy,
May I (you/we) be healthy,
May I (you/we) be safe,
May I (you/we) be peaceful.
It’s so great how it really fills you up in the heart, and is a reminder that we have an infinite amount of love to offer, as long as we are sure our cup never empties. Enjoy.
